Springfield, MO Photography | Hotel Vandivort: The Story of an Engagement Portrait
It was February, and we were really only looking for a place to warm up for a minute before we continued our adventure through downtown Springfield for the rest of Stacy & Blake's engagement session. They had traveled in from Georgia to see family, and Stacy's sister (who is a long-time client of ours), purchased a session for them while they were in town. None of us had ever been inside the newly-renovated Hotel Vandivort, and we were immediately blown away. The lobby was amazing! It was sleek and modern, but vintage and cozy all at the same time. We spotted the giant window that faces Walnut Street, and we knew we had a great opportunity. To be polite, we asked the front desk if we could quietly snap off a few engagement portraits while we took a break from bitter winter wind. The women at the desk were kind and more than happy to oblige.
The image we captured dazzles my eyes and is still one of my favorite engagement photos of all time! For such a simple photo, there is so much happening within its frame. The shapes and lines, the depth and soft, ambient light, the way the window perfectly frames the sweet moment between bride and groom to-be provide interest, texture, and elegance. I love the newspaper carelessly tossed about and the "Open Sunday for Lunch" sign in the background.
Since this day, we've made a handful of other photos in the hotel's lobby, including high school seniors and a beautiful maternity portrait. There are so many textures and interesting nooks and crannies that I could photograph there for days and never get tired! Any couple who books this wedding venue are going to have amazing wedding photos!
A special THANK YOU to Stacy & Blake for trusting us when we assured them we could make a February engagement session nice and cozy. ;)
