Geode Wedding Cakes are Trending in 2017. Here's a Couple Who Already "Rocked" Theirs in 2016!
Wedding Wire released their Wedding Trend Guide for 2017, and the nerd in me was delighted to see geode cakes on their list of trendy wedding cakes. Naturally existing geodes most usually come from volcanic rock. They are ordinary rocks on the outside with a cavity of amazing crystals that dazzle your eyes on the inside. They're gorgeous! While geode cakes are made with sugar rock candy, not actual rocks, the imitation is spot on. They are tons of fun to look at, so after you finish reading this, head over to Google and feast your eyes!
Last May, we had the honor of photographing the union of two very close (and very nerdy!) friends of ours at the Missouri Institute of Natural Science, which lies just south of Springfield on Farm Road 190. There, among the museum cases of fossils and prehistoric bones, our friends, Brett and Tiffany, displayed this adorable geode wedding cake, personally crafted just for them by Shawnee Bullette:
The groom 3D-printed the perfect cake topper for this natural science themed wedding, two dinosaurs in love!
Here are some other notable wedding trends that Wedding Wire predicted for 2017:
- Hanging food displays (Yum!)
- Silent Disco at the reception (Shhhhh!...We're dancing!)
- Copper and bronze color schemes
- Greenery (Click here to see a great example of using just the right touch of greenery!)
- Sparkler first dance instead of sparkler send off (OOoooo!...Aaaahhhhh!)
- Bridesmaids jumpsuits! (Say what?!?!?)
